$2M Crypto Theft: Pump.fun Ex-Dev Jailed, Faces 10 Years

Jarett Dunn, a former developer at the Solana meme coin platform Pump.fun, has been jailed in London for breaching his bail conditions. Dunn is awaiting trial for stealing nearly $2 million in SOL from Pump.fun in May 2024. He initially pleaded guilty but later withdrew his plea, leading to the loss of his legal team and stricter bail terms. His unauthorized travel from London to Liverpool and tampering with his ankle monitor resulted in his arrest and imprisonment.

Dunn’s actions followed his claims of a hostile work environment and accusations against Pump.fun, including operating as an unregistered securities exchange and allegations of child abuse. Despite initially accepting responsibility, Dunn later attempted to retract his guilty plea. However, recent social media posts suggest he may now be reconsidering, potentially accepting the plea again. His friend, Mark Kelly, reportedly manages Dunn’s X account (@STACCoverflow) and has been communicating with him since his incarceration.

The theft involved diverting the stolen SOL to various wallets holding Solana memecoins or NFTs, gaining Dunn a following within the crypto community. In the UK, Dunn faces a potential 10-year sentence for fraud by abuse of position, with additional time possible for the bail breach. Mitigating factors such as an early guilty plea or health issues could influence the final sentence. Ironically, Pump.fun recently concluded a successful ICO, raising $600 million and achieving a valuation exceeding $6 billion.
