Brazil’s XRP ETF Launch: A US Approval on the Horizon?
Brazil has become the first country to launch a spot XRP ETF, marking a significant milestone in cryptocurrency adoption. Hashdex, an asset manager, listed the XRPH11 ETF on Brazil’s B3 stock exchange on April 25th, 2025, following approval from the Brazilian Securities and Exchange Commission (CVM) in February. The ETF tracks XRP’s price using the Nasdaq XRP Reference Price Index and invests at least 95% of its assets in XRP, employing futures contracts and other securities. Genial Investimentos manages the fund, while Genial Bank SA acts as custodian. The ETF carries a 0.8% annual management cost (0.7% management fees + 0.1% custodian fees). This is Hashdex’s ninth cryptocurrency ETF on the B3 exchange, showcasing Brazil’s growing openness to crypto investments. The successful launch creates pressure on the US, which currently lacks a spot XRP ETF despite XRP’s market capitalization exceeding $120 billion and Ripple‘s progress in resolving regulatory issues with the SEC. The Trump administration’s aim to make the US the “crypto capital of the world” contributes to a more positive regulatory climate. Several large asset managers, including Grayscale and Franklin Templeton, have filed for US XRP spot ETFs, with analysts estimating a 73% chance of approval. While the US recently saw a leveraged XRP ETF launch, the lack of a spot ETF makes the Brazilian launch a significant development. This event highlights Brazil’s early adoption of crypto ETFs and suggests a potential shift in mainstream financial markets’ acceptance of cryptocurrencies.
